In the poem, the  plenty of this city are dirty,  abuse, and happy. The people are not saying to themselves, Well, my life is  flagitious because this is where I live and this is my underpaying job. T   hey are laughing and  rapt because they have life. Chicago is unlike Lucinda Matlock because Carl Sandburgs depiction of life in Chicago is so much  much cynical than that of Masters more  pollyannaish characterization and depiction of life in the world.

 Richard Cory is a poem about an aristocratic man that under- appreciates life, and, as a  go forth commits suicide. The narrator talks about how grabby he/she is of Richard Cory.  just in the very end do they mention the  detail that he is actually a very sad man. This poem is a representation of the front that some people  stage up to hide their inner selves  receiva   ble to embarrassment or many other feeling o!   f despair. Finally, we read We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar. This is very  alike to Richard Cory in its message.
